Fallow Deer

In 1864 the fallow deer was first introduced to New Zealand from Europe. They flourish on both the North and South Islands and they are the second most abundant deer in New Zealand, next to the red deer.

The Fallow Deer prefers the grasslands and mixed woodlands for habitat and come in a wide array of colors varying from very dark to almost white. The common colored Fallow Deer has a brown coat with white spots.
